Lesson 8: Basic Web Page Creation

Network - several computers connected together for the purpose of sharing resources.


Parts of a website:

Website -  a collection of web pages.

Web page -  a page within a website that contains text, graphics, pictures, videos, and multimedia.

Homepage - the first page that opens on a website.

Splash page - contains graphics or multimedia with the purpose of attracting users to your website.



Accessing the web:

Dial-up connection - connection to the internet through telephone lines.

DSL - similar to dial-up connection but it is equipped with a newer technology, you gain access to the internet through telephone lines but you can also have access to the telephone.

Cable internet - connection to the internet through the use of technology that is also used to connect cable televisions.

Wireless internet - connection to the internet without the use of wires.

Dedicated line - similar to Dial-up connection and DSL although the connection here is purposely made for the sole purpose of connecting to the internet.



Web browsers - used to explore websites on the internet.

Basic Web Design Principles:

Balance - symmetry or order of objects around the web page.

Proximity - The spacing between each object.

White spaces - The blank spaces on your web page.

Contrast - Proper use of colors to emphasize, or direct the attention of your users to something else.

Focus - Emphasizing of an object that is relevant to your website.

Unity - The relation of each object and how they support one another.


Essential Elements of Web Contents:

Accuracy - The authenticity and preciseness of your content

Credibility - The legitimacy of the source of content.

Understandable - The proper use of words for your users to easily get the idea of your content.

Concise - The quality of being precise but written shortly and not redundant.

Ethical and Legal - The quality of your content to be appropriate and not disreputable.


Planning your website:


  1. Create the goal or purpose.
  2. Identify the primary target audience.
  3. Plan the content of the website.
  4. Plan and organize the site structure.
  5. Plan the web page details.
  6. Planning and designing the navigation scheme.
  7. Planning and gathering your resources.
